When you’re thinking about what fuel to use for your stove, it depends what kind of stove you have. With that in mind, there may be different types of fuel for you to consider. Here at Nexus Stoves, we provide our customers with gas stoves, wood stoves, multi-fuel stoves, pellet stoves, and electric stoves are coming soon.
Gas
We stock gas stoves from Bellfires, and this option offers a modern and environmentally friendly way of heating your home. Burning natural gas, it is a clean and energy efficient method.
Wood
We stock a variety of wood-burning stoves, and these are capable of burning any wood-derived biomass fuel. This includes sawdust bricks, but generally, you will want to consider whether you are burning hardwood or softwood. Hardwood offers a slower, more sustained output, whilst softwood usually burns at a faster rate. Therefore, hardwoods are better for a long-lasting, but low burn, whilst softwoods won’t last as long but will feel hotter.
Multi-Fuel
The key with multi-fuel stoves is that they are able to use a combination of fuels, making them a popular choice, sitting comfortably between modernity and tradition. At Nexus Stoves, we stock a wide range of different brands. This gives you the option to use a range of different fuels in addition to wood. This includes pellets, kindling, coal, and peat. Below, we’ll go into more detail about the different fuels you can use on these stoves.
Logs
Like traditional wood-burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves require the same considerations when it comes to the use of wooden logs. It is also important to keep in mind that the moisture content should be less than 25%, or you will be in danger of producing more smoke and it will not burn as efficiently. In order to achieve the best burn, you should either leave any unseasoned logs to dry out for at least a year, or you can guy seasoned logs, including those that are kiln dried. You can even buy a moisture gauge online to test the moisture levels. At Nexus Stoves, we are happy to supply logs in a sack of 15kg.
Pellets
Pellets are usually made from recycled wood waste and sawdust, making them more eco-friendly. They should only be burned in multi-fuel stoves, which are specifically designed to be used with pellets. They could be seen as advantageous to wooden logs because they are able to provide heat of between 2-3 days. There are also compressed wood briquettes, which work in a similar way and are more efficient than wooden logs in the energy they produce because of their dryness. We are pleased to keep you stocked up with your pellets here at Nexus Stoves.
Kindling
Kindling wood helps you build up a fire underneath larger logs to help ignite a good fire. It is smaller and easier to get burning than large logs, and this is because generally the smaller the wood, the drier it can become, and in a shorter amount of time. It is usually formed by splitting the wood, but it’s also what we refer to when we use scraps of wood for outdoor campfires. We’re glad to be suppliers of top quality kindling wood to assist your fire’s flames.
Coal
The benefit of using coal is that it is a very energy dense fuel, providing a slow burn, but producing a lot of heat. However, it is becoming less popular than other methods of fuel now because it is the most polluting fuel, and with environmental concerns being a solid priority, it a lot of cases it is best avoided. This is especially true if you live in a smoke restricted area, so you will need to check the requirements if you desire to burn coal in your stove.
Peat
It is worth mentioning that you can also burn peat on multi-fuel stoves, a substance formed of partly decomposed vegetable matter, also used for gardening. You can combine different types of fuel for the optimum burn, and peat can play a part in this process. It is often said to be the best method of burning in stoves and can be cheaper too.

]]>As you likely know, there is more to fire fuel than simply chucking any old wood on a fire. At Nexus Heat, we have a selection of options, including kindling wood, split wood and wood pellets, available as bulk deliveries, and 15kg log stacks in take-home nets.
Use Seasoned Logs
Seasoned logs should have a moisture content of between 30% and 50%, with the basic guide being the drier, the better. This prevents too much smoke being produced from your fire, and lessens the risk of the fire spitting. Not only does this mean seasoned wood is better for your health and safety, but it also burns better. At times you may find that logs have surface dampness if they happen to have been outside in rain, but as long as the core of the log is dry, the logs are still seasoned.
Keep Ventilated
When fuelling a stove, you need to make sure that the air vents are fully open in order to keep the area ventilated. Proper ventilation is a regulation, and for more detailed information on this, you should consult your user manual for the guidance specific to your appliance.
Combine Fuels
The simplest and fastest way to get your fire burning is to light it with dry kindling. However, for a long-lasting fire, you could combine both softwood logs and hardwood logs. Softwood will ensure that your fire instantly heats up, taking mere minutes to start blazing. By combining this with hardwood means that you can take advantage of the speed of the fire starting, yet it will last much longer than if solely using softwood. This is great during cold winters, and as the hardwood takes longer to burn, it is an energy efficient way of using your wood burning stove.
Keep Logs Dry
Although, as stated, some surface wetness is usually not a problem, to get the most out of your wood fuel purchase, you should make sure to keep your logs dry. Not only should you shield them from rain, but you should also try to keep them off the ground completely. In any case, make sure that your logs are fully dry from any surface moisture before placing into your fireplace.
Stack Your Logs Well
In addition to keeping your logs dry, by stacking your logs well, your wood will be better organised and more aesthetically pleasing if on display. Rather than having a big lumped pile of wood, we advise that you stack your logs in a lattice pattern. Each layer of the lattice should be stacked in alternate directions. This will guarantee the best air circulation, which will in turn help to lower the moisture content even more.

]]>Choosing the right stove for your home can be a difficult decision, particularly when it comes to choosing the type of stove you should buy. Wood, gas and electric stoves are all traditionally strong options that won’t let you down, but there’s one type of stove you may not have considered looking into: that’s the pellet stove. Here at Nexus Heat, we pride ourselves on stocking an excellent selection of wood pellet stoves, all manufactured by MCZ.
There are many benefits to wood pellet stoves which make them an excellent alternative to the more traditional types of stoves we’ve already mentioned. But why are wood pellet stoves such a wise investment? Let’s outline just some of the reasons why a pellet stove is worth considering:
Clean and Efficient
Traditional forms of fuel such as wood and gas can often be subject to criticism these days for being comparatively inefficient and ‘dirty’. Wood pellets, meanwhile, burn cleanly and efficiently, making the pellet stove the environmentally and energy-friendly option.
The average yield of a pellet burner is an excellent 90% while the level of emissions a pellet stove emits are also impressively low. If you choose a pellet stove, you can be sure that you’ve made the right decision for the planet.
Cheaper
The efficiency of wood pellet stoves also means that they are considerably cheaper to have around the house than more traditional stoves. A pellet stove is 25% less expensive than a natural gas stove on average, and amazingly, only half as costly as diesel stoves which waste a lot of fuel.
Because wood pellets are a renewable energy source, wood pellet stoves come with the added benefit of attracting lower tax as governments look to meet their climate targets and encourage good energy usage. All this makes a pellet stove a wise financial option.
Convenient
One common issue with wood or, historically, coal fires is the ash that they tend to leave behind. Because wood pellet stoves burn more efficiently, they are super easy to upkeep, leaving less ash for you to have to clean up. They are also very easy to keep burning, as you can easily find wood pellets for sale at your average supermarket – ideal for the chilly winter months.
Versatile
Fitting with their modern nature, wood pellet stoves are versatile stoves. Many types of pellet stove can be set to switch on and off automatically, so you can trust them to work when you’re not there. Whether you’re looking to heat your lounge ready for your arrival home or boil some water for a relaxing shower, you can always rely on your pellet stove to do the job.
Here at Nexus Heat, we would love to see more people trying out a pellet stove in Suffolk. If you would like to know more about our wood pellet stoves, please visit our products page to view our digital brochure of MCZ pellet stoves. Alternatively, you can always get in touch with us via our online form or visit us here at our Suffolk showroom. It’s our aim to get your fire started!
]]>The Islands which we refer to as the British Isles are truly a remarkable place. The northern tip of our islands lies just 400 miles from the arctic circle – 200 miles less than its distance from London – and at the same latitude as Anchorage and St Petersburg. Yet, although Scottish winters can be harsh, the climate is far milder there than in those famous cities which nestle in the grip of perpetual winter. Elsewhere in Britain, we enjoy comparatively mild and comfortable seasonal variations, and are protected from most kinds of extreme weather events which occur in other parts of the world. Even our notoriously damp summers have endowed us with a legacy of abundant and diverse flora, and rich, fertile farmland.
It is the North Atlantic Drift (also known as the ‘gulf stream’) which is responsible for our temperate oceanic climate, and the history of our islands and our nation could have been very different without it. What better way could there be to enjoy these stunning natural surroundings and favourable conditions than relaxing in your garden with family, friends, and some well-chosen refreshments? Add an outdoor fire pit to take off the chill as the evening draws in, and we surely have the perfect picture of countryside bliss. That’s right, with an outdoor wood stove Suffolk householders can find new ways to enjoy and share their beautiful gardens. When you live in one of our country’s most picturesque regions, you want to make thee most of your outdoor spaces. Fortunately, Nexus Heat can provide a garden stove or outdoor burner Suffolk homeowners will be proud to show off to guests.
Yes, we all want to get the maximum enjoyment from our gardens, and outdoor fire pits and wood burners are definitely the trend right now. There is nothing so cosy as a real fire on a cold evening, whether in the hearth or on your patio. As experts in solid fuel stoves and burners of all kinds, Nexus Heat can provide all the materials and accessories you need to make your outdoor fire pit Suffolk’s next big thing. Browse our website or pop into our showroom to find products which will fire your imagination.
